After an almost 2 year hiatus from my personal blog due to an erractic work load, I've finally decided to give it a go again.

Opening up a Windows hosting account has given me the freedom to work on my ASP.Net projects with SQL Server 2008, but also to blog with the same technology that I work on for a living. Don't get me wrong, Wordpress is great (as I was on it on the first version of my blog) but debugging it won't help me understand .Net code the way BlogEngine will, and it having an SQL Server backend helps too.

My great experience with BlogEngine as with my other blog (aquageek.me) has helped me decide to move to this new platform, and for the past few weeks I've been busy researching how to migrate my old posts from my WP blog to BlogEngine. Not having the time to play with migration has made me decide to not go through with it, but to start fresh even with my blog posts.

So far so good, I've had an issue with deploying BlogEngine for SQL Server (it's default storage is XML), but with a great community of BlogEngine users out there, googling for instructions and tips helped me finish up. The BlogEngine documentation was helpful enough to point me to the sql file for constructing the needed tables on my database. I've also seen some common ASP.Net deployment issues that would have been alient to me if I haven't encountered them with my web development work lately so this is experience gained as to what I've said earlier.

I will eventually move aquageek.me to this new hosting account (with it's content) so here's to looking forward to another migration project.

Here's to my first post on this latest incarnation of my blog, and most of the new content will be about solving common issues on ASP.Net web development, SQL Server stuff, and even WinForms programming. I was thinking that in some way, my posts will also help other developers out there with their work, as what the other developers/bloggers have done the same for me.
